What is Humanism?

Humanism is a dynamic and enriching philosophy that affirms our capacity to lead meaningful, ethical lives free from religious nuances, while embracing personal growth and aspiring to the greater good for the betterment of society. Humanists are motivated by love, empathy, and respect, inspired by music, art, and the beauty of the natural world, and guided by rational thought and moral responsibility.

The earliest record of Humanist philosophy originated in ancient Greece. This philosophy turned to human beings rather than gods to solve human problems. Humanists assert that human beings can set higher standards of personal integrity and social responsibility by guiding their lives by rational, ethical, fair and compassionate means, rather than invoking imaginary or mystical sanctions.

What do Humanists Believe?

Humanists recognize that purpose and morality are intrinsic to the human experience, and that our shared kinship holds the key to cultivating a more loving, peaceful, and compassionate world.

Key Humanist Principles

We are dedicated to the continued improvement of society and the Earth itself by supporting secular and scientific approaches to addressing the wide range of global issues affecting us all.

We advocate for human rights so that everyone has the opportunity to develop to their full potential.

We encourage secular public policies, and keeping religion and government separate, as secular laws are the fairest and most realistic way that all people can be treated equally and fairly under the law.
